Laboratory: Giant vesicles

In the case of electroformation technique the lipids are deposited on the platinum wires of electroformation cell, few drops and under vacuum overnight to drying down the lipids. The vesicle swelling is accelerated by applying a low-voltage electric alternating field that can promote the formation of truly unilamellar giant vesicles.

In the case of emulsion inversion method, the technique relies to the formation of a stable inverted W/O emulsion of an oil and bilayer forming phospholipids, and on the passage of the emulsion droplets through a second interface to make the bilayer.
